When I think of the metaphysical representation of “the Left,” I think of dysgenic, androgenous hordes of self-mutilating people (physically and spiritually), children of eldritch entities drenched in the deepest ills of societal consciousness. I think of dark pools filled to the brim with coagulated puddles of toxic filth accompanied by a stench so terrible, a miasma so powerful, that one’s head begins to spin at a whiff of it. I think of an accursed amalgamation of ideologies chopped up and sewn together by some mad scientist overtaken by his own hubris.
The Bible probably says it best with…
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
One thing that I love about H.P. Lovecraft’s work is that he truly understood what was lurking underneath civilization. There’s some primal insanity, some deterministic self-destruction hidden underneath the veneer of an ordered and well-run society (the one of his day). This is likely due to his own occult interests, but part of the reason that his writings remain a mainstay in the English-speaking world is because they highlight an aspect of reality that is ever-present. Under the façade of a functional society is an untamed madness, a twisted perversion and corruption just waiting for its chance to erupt.
In his writings, a dark end is frequently prophesized for all of humanity and/or the characters starring in the story. He crafts his stories with an inevitable pull towards a pre-modern conception of darkness but even further back than that, an ancient conception of darkness. By that I mean, before fire, at night, there was simply darkness, darkness that felt like it would go on forever, that could only be feared and never overcome. There’s always the feeling that eyes are on you, that something hungry is lurking nearby, watching and waiting for you to fall asleep so that it can strike.
In his stories and myths, humanity and human constructs of society (towns, cities, a generally ordered reality) are only a moment away from the cataclysmic and inescapable confrontation with something foreign and otherworldly that casts its fires, lamps, and lights of consciousness back into a bestial state of unknowable darkness once again. Thus, we sink back into sitting in the dust and taking shelter in the caves. This is his worldview, not mine, but there is some truth in it.
This lurking darkness is simply looking for a crack, a sliver of space large enough for it to slip through, a window or a door left open that gives it access to unseat all that ruled previously, to undermine all that came before it, to usher in a new age of chaos. As it oozes in, it does so quietly, not wanting to be caught while its weak. No. It’ll make more serious moves once it’s too strong to be denied. The darkness that the left exudes is both skin-deep and primal. It’s both manufactured and ancient. It is the thing that societies are always trying to keep out, to oppress (they’ve got something right…), and to smother. If we could just keep the chaos outside the gates for a little while longer…
As creatures made in the image of God, as those blessed to receive the Truth of Jesus Christ and receive his Holy Spirit, we are the light-bearers in the midst of the night of our day. The dusk has come but perhaps we can be blessed to stave off the night for a while longer. Perhaps I’m too hopeful for my own good, but as it says in the book of Joshua, time stood still until the battle was won against the Amorites at Gibeon. May time stand still in our battle against the spirit of the age in our day until we receive victory.
12 Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel.
And so, to address the title, what do we call this darkness? “The Left” isn’t cutting it anymore. When I use the term, it’s like sour milk. It just doesn’t taste or feel right in my mouth. It also feels like its too bland a term to describe them. Like the term “social justice warrior,” it does not convey the ills that it brings with it. If the ideals of that side are a cancer to what we want to uphold, if we’re at war against those ideals, then we should call it something that truly characterizes it. This isn’t it. We must name the evil. What is it really?
I don’t want to exaggerate the strengths of their side, but I also don’t want to downplay the battle we’re facing. Often, I’ll discuss “the west” as well, but this is a global battle. Everywhere in every country, those with classical identities are at war with this set of flat, gray, vaguely corporatized, “innocuous,” Satanic goop identities. This unnamed darkness is slowly seeping through the floorboards of humanity everywhere there exists a light of consciousness, of order.
I also hate the use of the term “woke” because, again, it’s darkness isn’t explained in that term. If we are the ones writing the textbooks in the future, wouldn’t the term “woke” be confusing? It’s time for the right to engage in some real Word Warfare and create a marketable term for what they are that is unambiguous. I honestly have no ideas of my own right now, but surely, someone out there has an idea.
Actually, I just had a thought while writing this. Tell me if this has memetic power: the Goop? Think about it. It’s the name of Gwyneth Paltrow’s company which is really, in essence, a physical manifestation of the spiritual enemy we’re discussing here, LOL! But is “Goop” always bad? Hmmmm… Also, while writing this, I’ve been thinking of the movies “The Blob” and “The Thing” which inspired my suggestion above.
Another thought, which I feel like confers too much power on them, we could name them after a Lovecraftian monster. I was thinking of calling them the “agents of Yogg” of “agents of Cthulhu,” but I feel like that’s too much. Perhaps referring to them as being “shoggoths” would work as well…not sure. Getting something with memetic energy is hard.
There’s a few ideas. If you come up with something good, please suggest in the comments below. We must name the evil!
Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn really dwelt on the etymology of the Left-Right distinction. He talked about the negative connotation "Left" has throughout history. That being said when discussing a new word for them( I kinda of agree calling people leftists doesn't sting anymore), we should use another description Leddhin had for them "The Herd". Devoid of any thought, subservient, doing things purely based on inertia, mob-like, etc... Sadist works as well, de Sade is truly the father of leftism and furthermore these people resemble him more than marx.
